Obituary

Our Mom was born October 20th, 1928, to Pilar Guarnero and Francisca Reyes. Our grandmother was 6 months pregnant with Mom when our grandfather passed so Mom never got to meet her dad. She attended Navarro Elementary School then on to Sidney Lanier for middle and high school where she graduated.

She worked at Finesilver Manufacturing Company as a seamstress and would set the collars onto men's work shirts. She also worked at Esskay Manufacturing Company where men's suits were made. Her specialty was setting the front pocket flaps on the suit as well as the fabric insert on the outer chest pockets. So skilled in her craft; she was relied upon to stitch them on sample suits sent out as demos.

She then worked at Mesa Inc. Medical Supply company sewing slings, back braces, and a variety of medical aids. Given the opportunity to work in their shipping and receiving department, she retired at age 81 as Warehouse Manager. She began her battle with breast cancer and had a double mastectomy. With God's grace and help she was healed.

My parents married October 13th, 1947, which produced my sister Sylvia Ann, my brother Richard, and me, Sonya Frances. After her divorce, she worked hard to keep us safe and together, sometimes working two jobs to make ends meet. She would say, at least I got you all to graduate from high school and nobody went to jail. Indeed.

Gloria Reyes Guarnero was preceded by her father Pilar Guarnero and mother Francisca Reyes, her sister Pauline Rodriguez, and her brothers Juan, Ricardo, and Jose Pilar Guarnero. Mom was the last sibling left behind to pass. It is my belief their cozy little family is once again reunited, Mom was finally able to meet her dad, and he was out front, waiting to greet and welcome her.

Gloria is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Ann Herrera; son, Richard G. Solis; and daughter, Sonya Frances Guarnero; her grandchildren: Amando S. Herrera III (deceased), Yvonne Michelle Garcia (husband Baltazar), Theodore Matthew Herrera, Vanessa Celeste Herrera, Richard C. Solis III (deceased), Andrew Solis (wife Lucy), and Paul Solis (deceased); her great-grandchildren Sabrina Nicole Garcia, Baltazar Adam Garcia, Andrew Solis Jr., Christopher Solis, Samantha Ann Herrera, Theodore Matthew Herrera Jr. (soon-to-be wife Alexis), Brandon Nicholas Herrera, Dahlton Myles Herrera, Mia Rae Herrera, Jaxson Beau Herrera, Mark Edward Torres, and one soon-to-be great-great granddaughter Remi Layne Herrera. She is also survived by one niece Magdalena Hernandez Alanis, and nephews Peter Andrew Guarnero, Joe Daniel Guarnero, Clemente G. Rodriguez, Arturo Hernandez, and Antonio Hernandez.

We would like to thank the New Century Hospice staff, nurses, and aides for their caring attention to Mom during our journey with her.

Guests are encouraged to join our family in honoring our Mom and Grandma by wearing her favorite color, yellow. Attendees are also invited to a luncheon after the services in the Gibney Room at St. Paul.

We would like to express our sincere and heartfelt gratitude for your prayers and well wishes during this challenging time for our family.  May God bless all of you.
