Gerry (Geraldine) Fernandez Stallman, 90, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on September 21, 2018. She was born on June 5, 1928 in San Antonio to Hortencia Villa Fernandez and Francisco Fernandez.
Gerry entered school at the age of 5 speaking only Spanish. By the time she entered high school, she had managed to eliminate the Irish accent bestowed by the nuns. She graduated high school at age 15. Fifteen years later, she had borne 6 children and reentered the workforce. Ultimately, she became one of the first women to break into airport management.
Upon retiring in 1994, she dedicated more than 10 years working for St Gregory's bereavement ministry. Gerry's passions included her family, learning, reading, and playing cards. She loved cooking and baking for others.
Causes important to Gerry included St Gregory Catholic Church and the Presentation Sisters, and research into Alzheimer disease and Macular Degeneration.
Gerry was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Kenneth Gordon Stallman Jr, son Michael Joseph, grandson Joshua Detrick Tischler, brothers Roger and Reuben Fernandez.
She is survived by her sister, Carmen Fernandez Hernandez, brother Frank Fernandez (Margie), sisters-in-law Lina Fernandez, Phyllis Davis, Yvonne Kauffman. Also survived by five children, Pat Closter (Robert), Cynthia Elizondo (Al), Rebecca Sills (Ron), Kathy Engbrock (Les), and Ken Stallman (Laurie), and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Gerry will be very much missed.
Her family wishes to extend special thanks to caregiver, Valerie Ghan, for her patience and love.
