Obituary

Geneviève N. Sims née Beauvais passed on to be with Notre Seigneur on June 30 after a long struggle with several different illnesses.  She was courageous and loved life so she fought bravely until the burden became too heavy.

Geneviève was born in Algiers, Algeria when it was a Province of France and where her father was a newspaper publisher.  She was a nurse and mid-wife there until the end of the war for independence when she immigrated to the United States.

She was a business woman in New York for several years before moving to Tucson, Arizona where she met her husband.  They moved to Louisiana and lived there for 20 years.  Then they moved to San Antonio where her husband taught Mathematics at St. Mary's University until his retirement in 2010.

She always kept herself busy with various projects.  She loved to read non-fiction books (religion, politics, history, etc.) in both French and English.  She also enjoyed photography, knitting, crafting with sea shells and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her father Georges Henri Beauvais, her mother Nellie Beauvais, her sisters Marie-Jeanne Vanderzwalm and Mathilde Gizard, sister-in-law Patsy Vaughn, and her nephews Paul Fickey and Mark Fickey.

Genevieve is survived by her loving husband Eugene and her sister-in-law Anita (James) Fickey and brother-in-law Gaylon Vaughn.  She had no children, but is also survived by her nieces Arabelle Vanderzwalm of Engien-les Bains, France and Gay Lynn Davis as well as her nephews Hugues Vanderzwalm of Paris, France, James Fickey Jr., Glenn Vaughn, Gerald Vaughn and David Fickey.
