MAJ. U.S. Army, (retired) Frank Cardenas Ramirez, Jr.
October 14, 1940 - January 14, 2024
Resident of San Antonio, TX - Frank Ramirez Jr., a veteran of the Vietnam War, passed away on January 14, 2024 surrounded by family. Frankie, as he was known to his relatives, was born on October 14, 1940, in Victoria, TX. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School before enlisting in the US Army. He retired as a military officer and served 27 years of active duty. He was recognized for his honorable service with a Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and National Guard Service Ribbon.
As a dedicated family man, he wore many hats. He was a Girl Scout dad, Cub Scout leader, football and soccer coach and Bunco buddy. Throughout their lives together, dad expressed his constant love for his wife, always holding hands and caring for each other. As a family, we enjoyed annual trips to the beach, sharing Blue Bell ice cream, fishing and laughing. He never missed his grandkids baseball games, school events and dance recitals.
As a second generation contractor for 40 years, he established a paving and utility construction company proudly employing dozens of family members, including his wife, Sylvia, and children, Letty and Tico, who always supported him. His legacy continues through his grandson, David, who operates a 4th generation paving company.
As the family patriarch, he lived a life marked by love, faith, and courage, touching countless lives with his warmth and charm.
Our father was a kind, caring and generous person who always put the needs of his family before his own. He was a man of strong faith and dedication to his family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sylvia Ramirez of 52 years, parents Frank and Eustolia Ramirez, his siblings Robert Ramirez and Melba Robles.
Loved ones that will cherish his memory and continue his legacy are his wife; Martha Aleman Ramirez, children; Letty Ramirez Gallo, Frank (Tico) Ramirez III, grandchildren; David Cortez and Elise Tobias, great-granddaughter; Miabelle Tobias, and sisters; Heidi Ramirez Storie and Irma Linda Bautista Zamora.
Frank was the center of a large family, including numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, all of whom felt the warmth of his loving spirit.
As we say goodbye to our hero who was larger than life, we take solace in the countless memories and the impact he made on all our lives.
His legacy will carry on forever reminding us to share kindness with others and spread love. We choose to live a life of meaningful acts of love and service, like Christ modeled for us.
With love from the Ramirez family.
