Frances Gonzales Villarreal, 98, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on May 28, 2026, after a long battle with dementia. Born on April 2, 1928, in Devine, Texas, Frances was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and caregiver. Our mother spent decades caring for children, the disabled, and the elderly. Frances was always willing to open her home to family, friends and any stray dog or cat that happened to show up on her porch. She never hesitated to help a stranger or give to the less fortunate. Frances was always trying to learn something new, whether it was learning to play the piano or oil painting, she was always determined to improve herself. Our beloved Frances was proud of her cooking, her baking and, most of all, her children and grandchildren. She always made sure her loved ones were given the best opportunities in life; from schooling to music lessons, she was willing to make whatever sacrifices needed to make this happen. She sewed our clothes, nursed our fevers, and filled our stomachs. Dementia may have diminished our mother's memory, but it never faded her smile, and it never extinguished her refulgent love.
Frances is survived by her children, Xavier, Yvette and Robert, her grandchildren, Brandy, Lauren, Ashley, Isabella, Joshua, Lorenzo, Sophia and Rafael, and her siblings, Rose, Dahlia, Lupe and Oscar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Juan Luis, her mother, Ramona, her father, Teodoro, and her siblings, Manuel, Ted and Margaret.
Visitation will begin on Tuesday, June 9th at 6:00pm with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00pm at the Angelus Chapel. Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, June 10th at 9:30am at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
