FR. JOSEPH DONALD CAHILL, S.M. Died in the service of the Blessed Virgin Mary on June 18, 2024, at the age of 95 and with 74 years of vowed life. He was the oldest of seven children born to Thomas Vincent and Mary Loretta (Sheedy) Cahill on August 5, 1928, in Detroit, MI. He is preceded in death by his sisters Maureen and Joan, and his brother Thomas Cahill, and survived by his brother David and his sisters Rita (Lamanna) and Ethel Cahill, along with many nieces and nephews.

After completing Grade School and High School at Holy Redeemer in Detroit, he entered the Marianist Novitiate in Galesville (Marynook), WI and professed his First Vows on September 24, 1949. His Scholasticate studies includes classes in Maryhurst, Mt. St. John in Dayton, OH, and St. Mary University in San Antonio, TX. He earned a BA in  History from St. Mary University in 1952, and an MA in Guidance from T.C.U. in Ft. Worth, TX in 1970.

On July 16, 1955, Fr. Donald made his Perpetual Vows with the Marianists in Galesville, WI and later studied for the priesthood at Fribourg University in Switzerland, completing with his Ordination on June 11, 1961. Over the many years, Fr. Don has served as a Teacher, Counselor, Associate Pastor, and Hospital Chaplain. In all places and with all people, he exemplified God's great love and compassion.
