Eva V. Eldridge, 93 peacefully went to be with Jesus on Thursday May 24th, surrounded by family. Her devotion to family and firm belief in God supported her through life and she ultimately found peace with her Father.
Preceded in death by her husband of 50 years John L. Eldridge, her mother Jesusa Manzanares Villasenor, her sister Elvira Travieso and her grandson Wesley C. Tischoff, she is survived by her four daughters: Mary Wormell and her husband Richard of Maryland, Susan Gudgell and her husband Wallis of New Berlin, Jeanne Byers and her husband William of New Braunfels and Jackie Tischoff of San Antonio, ten surviving grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. She will also be missed by her many nieces, extended family and caring friends.
A native of San Antonio, Eva was born to Jose and Jesusa M. Villasenor on January 14, 1925.
Jack and Eva met at Playland by the airplane ride. They married August 25, 1946. Jack and Eva lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma and other parts of the country until finally relocating to San Antonio in 1960.
Eva had a passion for debating, even changing high schools so she could continue to be part of a debate team.
In the forties, she worked at Fort Sam Houston as part of the US WWII effort. Eva was a loving mother, determined homemaker and beautiful seamstress. She was a proud school crossing guard and a classroom aid who worked for twenty years with bilingual and special education children. She always had a smile on her face when she saw the little ones, especially visits with her great grandchildren. Both Eva and Jack loved to travel. In later years they enjoyed many cruises with family members.
