Esther Alicia Martinez Arias, returned home to her Lord and Savior on August 25, 2018 at the age of 69. Her strength and courage defined Esther. Her faith was the power and force that sustained her during the latter part of her journey on earth.
She was born to Maria del Carmen Garza Bey and Jesus J. Martinez in Monterrey, Mexico, becoming a citizen in 1969.
Esther was married to her husband, Homer, for 44 years.
Wherever Esther was employed, she left a distinguished and professional mark on the organization and on the persons that worked by her side. She retired from Southwestern Bell after a stellar career of 23 years.
Esther was one of a kind, a unique visionary. What others saw as barriers, she saw as a challenge, something to face, commit to, embrace; something to overcome and ultimately resolve. She followed her mother's example of "Si Se Puede." Such was her battle with her health. Her will to live and to fight sustained her to the end. She fought her war with determination, gallantry and with her shield of faith that spurred her on to gain entrance into HIS mighty kingdom and being bestowed her crown of glory.
We will miss every bit of her energy, kindness, thoughtfulness and overwhelming and consuming love. Her humor and zest for life will continue to be the center of on-going conversation about her and who she was and what she meant to so many. We will miss her gorgeous smile, laughter and indelible beauty. But most of all we will miss her flamboyant personality, her rainbow-like nature and the light she brought into any room and to any occasion.
In addition to her husband, Homer, her surviving siblings include two sisters, Sr. Carmen Martinez, Patricia Pastrano (Henry), two brothers, Jesse and George (Yolanda) as well as her in-laws; numerous nephews and nieces and many friends.
