Mrs. Esther V. Flores went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at the age of 97. She was born January 13, 1925, in Cameron, Texas to the late Francisco and Cleofas Vasquez. After moving to San Antonio at an early age, she worked as a beautician for several years before she met and married Jesse Flores in 1953. In 1955, they moved to Bryan, Texas.
After raising her three children, Esther went to work for the Texas Department of Human Services as a Social Worker and retired from the State in 1988. Esther also worked as a volunteer at the Veterans Hospital in Marlin, Texas, with the Red Cross, and various other organizations. In 1972, Esther and Jesse established the Black and White Ball Scholarship Fund in Bryan to provide scholarships to students pursuing higher education. The last scholarship was given in 2010.
Esther was a wonderful and devoted wife and mother. Her loving family will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jesse and is survived by her three children: Elva Garcia and husband David of San Antonio, Jesse Flores Jr of San Antonio, and Roy Flores and wife Stacy of Bryan; six grandchildren, Celia Guerra and husband John, David Garcia Jr and wife Hannah, Derek Garcia, Leah Flores, Sara Flores, and Angela Flores; sister, Lillian Ramirez; and several nieces and nephews. We wish to thank her caregiver, Mari Vasquez, who so very lovingly cared for our mother for the last year and a half and has become part of our family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to mercedhousingtexas.org
