Estela Casillas Quintero was called home to our Lord Jesus Christ on the morning of April 17, 2024. She passed away peacefully after a full life of over 100 years. She was born on July 25, 1923, to Salomon and Telesfora C. (Casanova) Casillas in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from Lanier High School and later attended San Antonio College earning an associate degree. In her early years, she worked at the family business, Casillas Poultry, as well as several retail stores. She met and married Jerome Quintero on November 25, 1948, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church after his service in the Army Air Corp during WW2. Estela and Jerry had a beautiful life together, being married for 68 years. Jerry passed away on April 27, 2016.
The happy couple welcomed three children: Martha Leticia, Jerome Anthony, and Isabel Cristina (Tina). While raising her family, Estela was able to work at Kelly Field in several capacities. For several years, she worked the "graveyard" shift to stay at home with their children. Estela retired from Kelly Field.
Estela was dedicated to her faith, family, and Canary Island Decedents Association serving as 1st Vice President was one of her pleasures. She was also honored to be a qualified member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Estela was a loving caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, sharing her ancestry history with them.
Estela was preceded in death by her husband Jerome Quintero, parents Salomon and Telesfora, brother Alfred Casillas, sister Adelina Maldonado and daughter Martha L. Urias. Estela is survived by: Jerome A. and Priscilla Flores Quintero, Isabel C. and Thomas Alejandro, 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
The family appreciates the loving care she received from Above and Beyond Caregiving, especially: Leonor Cataldo, Reyna Ruiz, Vera Manuel, Mary Alice Reyes and Connie Martinez. A heartfelt thanks to Summit Hospice for the superior care given by Shayla Loker, Ashley Cormier and Rosa Perez and also Neada Wilson for her compassionate care and love she displayed for our mother.
