Our beloved mother, Esperanza Canedo Ortega, went to be with our Lord on August 10, 2018 at the age of 82. Our mother was born in San Antonio, Texas to the parents of Jose and Herminia Canedo on July 5, 1936. The name Esperanza means hope, which is why some people called her Hope or Hopie. Her name perfectly described our mother's positive outlook on life; she never gave up hope during hardships.
She graduated from Providence High School and was very proud of her accomplishment. She played volleyball in high school and was a star athlete. She had three siblings: Alfonso Canedo, Guadalupe Canedo and Helen Putman. She married Rudolph Ortega in 1955 and had five children: Rudolph (Rudy) Valentino Ortega, Joseph (Joe) Sam Ortega, Ronnie Ortega, Mary Theresa Armijo, and Anthony (Tony) Ortega.
She worked at Robert B. Green Hospital and University Hospital as a medical clerk where she retired after 30+ years. Our mother was a very strong lady and always put her family first. She was a true survivor and a hard worker. She was always excited to go places, had fun going to events especially to the Fiesta parades, loved conversation, and had a very strong Catholic faith.
She was preceded in death by her wonderful parents, her siblings and her beloved grandson, Sean James Harrison. She is survived by her children and grandchildren, Douglas Anthony Harrison, Anthony Michael Ortega, Mariah Christine Ortega, Sabrina Valentina Ortega and Frankie Armijo, her son-in-law Frank Armijo, her nieces, especially her loving niece Cynthia Ann Putman-Ramirez and nephews.
Her memory will forever live on in our hearts; her strong will to take any challenge with determination and her belief that you can achieve anything will always resonate in our daily life.
