Ernestine D. Navarro
April 15, 1928 – January 10, 2025
Ernestine D. Navarro was born on April 15, 1928, and went to be with the Lord on January 10, 2025. Ernestine, "Tina" attended and graduated from Fox Tech High School. She worked at St. John Berchman Catholic School and also attended Alamo Business College. She later became a Nurse Aide and worked at the Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital in San Antonio from November 1971, through 1991, and after 20 years of service, she retired. While attending Alamo Business College, Tina met the love of her life, Frank T. Navarro. Tina and Frank were married 71 years at the time of Frank's passing in 2019.
Tina grew up around the Salesian Sisters in San Antonio at St. John Bosco and St. James Catholic Schools. She was a devout catholic, faithful servant of God, and an active member of the catholic church. She was a Cooperator of the Association of Devotees of Mary Help of Christians (ADMA). Tina taught catechism with the Sisters of Divine Providence. Additionally, she was a part of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) with St. Stephen Catholic Church, coaching both girls' volleyball and softball. Through the years, Tina attended church at Sacred Heart, St. Stephen, St. Ann, Little Flower, St. Paul, and St. Luke catholic churches.
Tina's life was a radiant example of selflessness, love, and deep faith. Her generosity and kindness touched everyone she met, leaving a lasting impression of warmth and compassion. Each evening, she dedicated herself to prayer, reciting the rosary for the well-being of her family, friends, and anyone in need. Her devotion to the Blessed Mother was a cornerstone of her faith. She kept a statue of Mary prominently displayed, often times accompanied by a lit devotional candle, surrounded by photos of loved ones, knowing that the Blessed Mother's protection and intercession would keep her family safe. Tina's life was a living testament, to the power of prayer, love and devotion to those she held dear.
As a mother and grandmother, Tina was the central figure in the lives of her children and grandchildren, who lovingly called her "Grandma Tina". She took great joy in nurturing those bonds and was always present and eager to share her warmth, wisdom and time. Her love for fashion and sewing was another aspect of her vibrant personality-whether it was picking out the perfect outfit, or enjoying a day of shopping, Tina expressed herself through her appearance with confidence and flair.
Sports were another passion of Tina's, especially watching The University of Texas Longhorns football team, Dallas Cowboys, and the San Antonio Spurs. She cheered for her teams with the same fervor and enthusiasm that she brought to every part of her life, always with a smile and a heart full of joy.
Tina was preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, Frank T. Navarro, parents Juan and Dolores Delgado, brothers Ramiro Delgado, Jesse Delgado, Arturo Delgado, Louie Delgado, Charles Steinman, Armando Delgado, Sr. Teresa Delgado, F.M.A., and sons Joseph, Dominic, George and Frank. She is survived by her daughter Mariela Ruiz (Javier), sons Richard, Bob, Jerry (Velma), Marty, Steve (Lisa), daughter-in-law Tina Gamino, ten grandchildren, eight great granddaughters, and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff in the Memory Care Unit at The Etta at Shavano Park/The Waterford at Shavano Park for the exceptional care they provided to Tina during the last two years of her life. Additionally, the family extends their sincere thanks to AIP Hospice for the invaluable support and care they offered in the final six months of her life.
