Elvira Nuñez Lozano, age 81, entered eternal rest on Thursday, August 23, 2018. She was born on March 30, 1937 in Odem, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents Santos and Felipa Nuñez and brother Celestino Nuñez. Elvira is survived by her husband of 28 years Edward John Lozano, Sr., sister Carmen Nuñez, sons David Ortiz, Alex Ortiz, daughter Jo Ann Vidales, stepson Edward John Lozano Jr., 7 grandchildren and her beloved canine companion "Baby".
The family would like to acknowledge Ms. Candy Allen for her love and friendship over the past 5 years. Elvira and Candy drew strength from one another both during their time at dialysis. Elvira would refer to Candy as her "adopted daughter" and seat mate, during their dialysis sessions.
Elvira found comfort in those she loved surrounding herself with those who truly loved her.
In life, Elvira is what people would refer to as the definition of a true "fighter". After being diagnosed with kidney disease and liver disease, she took it upon herself to take this challenge head-on. Where others would see waking up at 4am to go to dialysis as a struggle, Elvira and her husband took the challenge head-on. Her positive outlook to her situation led others to grow from her strength.
Elvira enjoyed trips to the Texas Gulf Coast as part of her relaxation time with her husband. She found enjoyment in fishing to past the time, along with listening to the sounds of the ocean. A "Slot-Machine Queen" of sorts, you would find Elvira on the road traveling to go gambling at Eagle Pass, TX and Las Vegas, and Kinder, LA.
The family would also like to thank Dr. Flavio Alvarez for his care, and also the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care, on Broadway, for the years of care and service to Elvira.
