Eloy R. Lozano was called home to be with the Lord on April 8, 2019, at age 89, dying peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born on January 29, 1930, to Ester and Eulogio. He attended Tech High School, where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Salas, sharing 64 years together.
In his 5 years in the U.S. Navy he served as a torpedo gunner on the USS O'Bannon during the Korean War.
Following his military service, Eloy worked as a cartographer at Ft. Sam Houston (30+ years), receiving top honors as the Employee of the Year for the DoD Mapping Agency.
Eloy was highly involved in his kid's lives, often coaching CYO season after season, winning consecutive city championships. He was a very patient and encouraging man, always making the time for skill development for all levels, even after long days at work. As his grandkids came into the picture, he made equal time for each of them attending recitals, competitions, concerts, sporting and school events.
Eloy loved San Antonio. He was such a devoted fan to his San Antonio Spurs since they became a franchise. He made sure that his passion continued through each generation behind him. He also looked forward each year to FIESTA with a strategy to secure front row parade tickets for his entire family. He really enjoyed people enjoying themselves so much that he was often the host of many backyard BBQ's and holiday events simply for the festive atmosphere, jokes and laughter brought into his family.
Eloy loved to travel, meet new people, explore new cultures and create many memories with Margaret. Their trips took them from Hawaii and Canada, across the Caribbean from coast to coast, with many adventures in Vegas. He knew how to relax and enjoy his retirement after all his many years at Ft. Sam. When they weren't on vacation, he became involved with his Community Senior Center, participating not only in holiday events but also volunteering through the center to assist with hurricane relief efforts.
As for his faith, Eloy remained connected through his church, by supporting soda booths at the church festival and other Men's Club activities. He was a devout Catholic, attending mass weekly.
Eloy is survived by his wife, Margaret, son, Jerry Lozano, daughters, Linda Hernandez (Blas), Sandy Millman Ramirez (Rolando), grandchildren, Alex, Lindsay, Tony, Jaclyn, Hannah, great granddaughter Jasmine, and siblings Roy Lozano, and Rosie Martinez.
