Obituary

Elodia V. Garcia, age 96, passed away peacefully and was welcomed with loving arms by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 11, 2024.

Elodia was born March 7, 1928 in Rodriguez Coahuila, Mexico to Antolin and Esther Valdez.

She married her first husband, Jose Abrego Saenz in 1946 and had 2 daughters, Maria "Mine" and Josefina "Pepita". She became a widow at the young age of 23.

Eight years later she met the love of her life, Galo Garcia, Sr. and they married in 1959. They were blessed with a 53 year long marriage and 3 additional children, Galo Jr, Maria Teresa, and Lorenzo.

Elodia loved gardening. She grew beautiful roses and also pecans, pears, grapefruits, watermelon and pomegranates. She could plant a single seed and you knew that it was going to sprout and grow without a doubt. She also loved sewing, knitting, crocheting and other crafts and also singing. She started singing at a very early age and to us she had the voice of an angel.

Her beautiful voice will surely be missed by all.

Elodia was a devout Catholic and loved serving the Lord. She prayed faithfully daily always asking God to take care of her, her family and also others. She prayed many times for the sick for divine healing and always thanked God for all the blessings he bestowed on her. She was a member of the Mariachi Choir at St. Ann's Catholic Church for several years.

Elodia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Galo Garcia, Sr., her parents Antolin and Esther Valdez, 2 brothers and 2 sisters and granddaughter Liliana Morales. She is survived by daughters: Maria F. Abrego, Josefina Maturino (Sergio), Maria T. Gutierrez (Sofio) and sons: Galo Garcia, Jr. (Debbie) and Lorenzo Garcia (Susana); 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, March 26th at 7:00pm at The Angelus Funeral Home. Funeral procession will be on Wednesday, March 27th and will depart from the Angelus Chapel at 9:00am followed by a Funeral Mass to be offered at 9:30am at St. Ann's Catholic Church.  Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
