Eliodoro Rodriguez was born on March 18, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas to Eliodoro Calvo Rodriguez and Trinidad Saldivar of San Luis Potosi, Mexico. On December 31, 2020, the lights dimmed, and the angels whispered gently to call Eliodoro Rodriguez to Heaven's table, he was 77 years old. The Rodriguez household lost a true visionary, a man of light, purpose, and presence. He was always brave enough to follow things through to the very end, so this journey was the next chapter. If you asked a hundred people who Eliodoro Rodriguez was, they would all have a different story; he could have been all or none of these. A musician, a notario, bookkeeper, a builder, an advisor, a florist, a racehorse expert, an Indian Chief, a Medicine man, a veterinarian, a superhero, a guru of knowledge, a salesman, and even a galaxy slayer of evil. His life was a collection of stories and daily adventures; he was relentless and worked every day regardless of what was unfolding within him and around him.
Crafted by the wisdom of the Lord's word in which he knew so expertly, Eliodoro tackled every situation with grit, perseverance, and a sense of expertise. He reminded us that every day was an opportunity to work hard and make a difference. He did everything with a sense of purpose, a resolve that could not be deterred. "Work hard" he would say, "don't let anyone tell you it can't be done" as he would precede to tell stories about how he started working before he could walk. He opened a successful bookkeeping business, built numerous homes, and instilled in his children and grandchildren the importance of forward-thinking and personal drive.
He leaves a legacy for all of us; to continue to rise despite obstacles. To champion for those unable to champion for themselves, and he leaves incredible memories to be cherished. He was married for over 50 years to his best friend and soulmate, Cecilia Rodriguez.
His parents, nine brothers, and sisters preceded him in death. Eliodoro is survived by his wife, Cecilia Rodriguez, his children Monica and Leroy Yzaguirre, Daniel and Sherry Rodriguez, Sonia and Yvette Morales-Rodriguez; Deborah and Garry Ely; Javier Rodriguez; Eli S. Rodriguez, and Erma Vargas. His grandsons Joshua Yzaguirre, James Rodriguez, Antonio Rodriguez, Eric Morales-Rodriguez, Lee Morales-Rodriguez, and Alec Estrada. His granddaughters Anamaria Rivera, Ashley Yzaguirre, Hunter Yzaguirre, Emma Rodriguez, Erika Rodriguez, Madelyn Morales-Rodriguez, Kelsey Ely, McKenzie Ely, and Zoeyanna Rodriguez. Great-grandchildren Izaiah Martinez and Hannah Trevino. His brother Fred and Yolanda Rodriguez, and his three sisters; Enriquetta and Samuel Ortiz, Elia and Joe Ramos, and Margarita R. Guzman. Plus, a very long list of extended family members and very dear friends.
Lord, You have granted me life and loving kindness; and your care has preserved my spirit. (JOB 10:12)
