Elia Robles, lovingly known as "Grammy," entered into eternal rest with the Lord on December 6th, surrounded by her family.
A proud graduate of Fox Tech High School, Class of 1955, Elia remained actively involved in the alumni community alongside her husband, Zaragoza (Zag), enjoying many years of reunions, gatherings, and shared camaraderie.
Elia, along with Zag, raised 4 kids and was a stay-at-home mother returning to the work force when her youngest was old enough to attend school. She joined USAA where she worked for 25 years starting in the insurance division and eventually ending up in the flight services division until her retirement in 2000. Elia was deeply respected by her coworkers for her strong work ethic, kindness, and quiet professionalism.
Elia was also a force of nature at home. While Zag was working as an SAPD motorcycle officer, Elia held the fort and managed everything without complaint. She chauffeured, consoled, comforted, listened without judgment, showed love, offered wisdom and was the emotional anchor of the home. Where Zag was outgoing and social, Elia was reflective and introverted – the yin to his yang. Grounded, thoughtful and steady.
She will be remembered most for her deep and unwavering faith. She held a special devotion to the Virgin Mary and believed wholeheartedly in the power of prayer. When someone needed emotional support, Elia never hesitated—she simply added them to her list of intentions. If you needed a prayer, she was the person to turn to. She faithfully prayed the Rosary, offered novenas to her beloved saints and Blessed Mother for intercession.
Elia was extremely giving and charitable, quietly supporting many causes both Catholic and non-Catholic. She gave generously to help the poor, including contributing to the building of homes for families in Haiti and other impoverished countries. Her compassion was not confined to words; it was present in every act of kindness, generosity, and care for those in need. Through her faith, humility, and selfless heart, Elia lived each day in service to others.
We will miss her enormously and her loss will leave a large gap in all our lives. Our comfort is knowing she is finally at peace reunited with her husband Zaragoza, her brothers and beloved niece, Mary.
Elia was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Zaragoza Robles and is survived by her son, Jerry Robles and his wife Patt, son Roger Robles and his wife Shannon, daughter Kathy Gerhard and her husband Greg and daughter Christine Robles; grandchildren: Kenton Robles, Kellen Hoyl, Jacob Robles and Grayson Gerhard; great-granddaughter: Emmie Robles; sisters Tillie Ransom and Ernestine Roser; sister-in-law, Gloria Robles; numerous nieces and nephews.
The Robles family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Christus VNA Hospice, especially mom's nurse, Tina Barron, whose care and compassion helped to bring peace and comfort in her final days.
