Proudly serving in the U.S. Women's Army Corps (WAC), Elaine Marie "Dutchi" (Burns) Miller, entered into eternal rest and the perpetual light of our Lord on Wednesday, August 3, 2022.
A life devoted to our Holy Mother, Mary, Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Jimenez Gonzalez, Jr., her parents, Douglas and Evangeline (Grattan) Burns, her brothers, John, Joseph, Robert, and Gerald Burns, and sister, Evangeline Ann (Burns) Newton.
Born in Jamaica Plain Boston, MA, Elaine was nicknamed the "Duchess" by her eldest brother, John, as she was the only girl among her four brothers for several years. Elaine graduated from Randolph H.S. and upon joining the Army, attended service school at Ft. Gordon, GA. A PFC, she served as a cryptographer with top security clearance at Ft. Jay on Governor's Island in New York where she met her husband, Henry, a U.S. Army MP.
Following multiple stateside and overseas stations, the family settled in San Antonio, TX. Elaine served as an administrative assistant for the Law Offices of Sam Bashara and at San Antonio College, St. Mary's University, The University of Texas at San Antonio, and Galen College of Nursing.
Elaine's most proud accomplishments were her service to her country and the happiness and prosperity of she and Henry's five children. Her family participated in San Antonio's Parks & Recreation for several years where Elaine most enjoyed watching her children perform folklorico dance at the Arneson River Theatre.
She loved crossword puzzles, reading, gardening, watching Sherlock Holmes, Perry Mason, and Gunsmoke. An avid baker, she collected cookbooks and made delectable desserts. Passing down her talent, she spearheaded the 22-year family tradition of Christmas Baking Day.
Elaine is survived by her five children, Jessica Ann Gonzalez, Michael Henry Gonzalez (Cindy), Candace Marie (Gonzalez) Gengenbacher (Steven), Matthew David Gonzalez (Gena), and Marissa Evangeline (Gonzalez) Celestino (Eric), and her pride and joy, grandchildren, Jacqueline (Taylor), Mikayla, Cassandra, Marina, Eric, Evangeline, Micah, and Bryce.
Mom, your friend and baby boy, Matthew, speak for all of us as we thank you for a magical childhood, a home filled with love, your unwavering support and guidance, and shaping us into who we are today. We are ever grateful to you for instilling in us our religion and faith. The Gonzalez family thank you all for your warm thoughts and prayers.
