SMSgt. Edward H. Sanders, USAF, (Ret.), loving husband, father and brother, passed away in the company of his son on Friday, Nov. 26, 2021. Edward ("Hall") is survived by his second wife Patsy Pauline Burrell, his children Bruce Wayne, Roy Andrew and Steve John, and his sister Patricia Bonnie Frazier. He is also survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his first wife Evangeline ("Vangie") Cantu and his children Edward Hall, Jr. and Linda Elaine.
Hall was born in Hathorn, Mississippi on May 21, 1934 to the late Elaine Pluma and Roy Sanders. He attended Poydras High School in New Rhodes, Louisiana and joined the United States Air Force ("USAF") in 1952, on his 18th birthday. In 1956, he married Vangie who was his partner in life for 35 years, and they welcomed their first child in 1957. He devoted his life to his family and his career as they brought him the most joy and proudest moments.
Hall served in the USAF during the Vietnam War and was stationed at Cam Ranh and Tan Son Nhut Air Bases. He attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant and eventually retired from Lackland Air Force Base in 1979. His most recent position was Air Force Junior ROTC Instructor, working at Del Rio High School for nearly 10 years before retiring in 1995.
He took great satisfaction in sharing his fondness for the outdoors with friends and family, and he created everlasting memories fishing, riding four-wheelers, eating grits and menudo, and driving a variety of travel trailers and campers across the country. He will be greatly missed, but every person who is blessed to have been a part of his life will carry his love in their hearts for eternity. And he would love to remind everyone to "hang in there" and "be tough".
The family will be holding a viewing and receiving guests for Hall on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home, 1119 North St. Mary's Street, San Antonio, Texas 78215, followed by funeral service on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 9:30 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209.
