Duane Elmo Hilburn, born on October 22, 1948, in San Antonio, TX, went to be with our Lord on November 26, 2023, at the age of 75.

After serving in the army, Duane returned to San Antonio for higher education at UTSA. He emerged as a proud graduate, involved in the university's visual arts program. Duane's life took an unexpected turn when he was diagnosed with cancer. His unwavering strength carried him through a battle with leukemia and lymphoma.

In his pursuit to provide for his children, Duane adapted to new challenges, learning to draft architectural plans and design custom homes. A client once humorously suggested renaming a street to 'Hilburn Way' after his third home renovation on the same street. Later in life, Duane returned to his true passion for the arts, using the canvas to retell his stories.

Duane was a man of his word – integrity had a special place in his heart. Possessing a keen eye for design and a delightful sense of humor, his laughter brought joy to those around him. His love extended to his Weimaraners, with whom he shared countless moments.

He is missed by his loving wife, Diana Madrid; his children, Jeanne, Duane Jr., James and Sofia; his step-daughter, Elena; and his grandchildren.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the caregivers who became an extension of the family during Duane's illness: Erica, Rosa, Oscar, David, Anne, Karina, and Elijah. Special thanks to the compassionate staff at Alamo Adult Daycare and the nurses at Changing Seasons Senior Living.
