Obituary

Dorothy Edna, 92, went to her reward in Heaven, July 19, 2022. She was born October 18, 1929 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Julia Botteger and George Gallegos. Dorothy was preceded in death by her five siblings - a sister, Vera, and four brothers George, Lauro, Eddie and Phillip, as well as one daughter, Patricia Vera. Dorothy attended San Felipe School and St. Mary's High School in Albuquerque. She was trained as a Fred Harvey Waitress and worked at the train depot serving breakfast to the many soldiers traveling through Albuquerque on their way to various army bases. Dorothy has always been proud to let others know that she won a jitterbug contest in her youth!

She married Leon Arnold Garcia in January of 1947, a marriage that produced her first daughter, LaVonne Rose. She married for the second time to Malcolm Norris in 1959, a marriage that produced a second daughter, Patricia Vera, and moved to San Antonio, Texas. Dorothy worked as a Notary Public for her husband's car dealership, eventually moving to Georgetown, Texas, where she worked at Wal-Mart until the age of 80, at which point she decided to finally take a rest.  Dorothy moved back to San Antonio, where she lived in the home of, and under the care of, her loving daughter, LaVonne, for several years before moving into St. Francis Nursing Home, where she continued to receive loving care from the staff and the Seraphic Sisters.

She is survived by her oldest daughter, LaVonne Rose Garcia Gonzalez, seven grandchildren:  Julia, Jessica Justina, Joanna, Paul, Audrey and Ashley, and nine great grandchildren. Dorothy was loved by her family and friends for her huge laugh and sense of humor, her beautiful spirit and kind heart.  She was always willing to do what she could for others.   She was a passionate and inveterate Bingo player, and a lover of old movies, Andy Griffith, and any and all chocolate!

The family wishes to thank St. Francis Nursing Home for their excellent, loving care of our Mother and Grandmother.
