Dorothy Ann Lonas, born on February 18, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, one day shy of her 75th birthday. A lifelong resident of San Antonio, Dorothy was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend whose unassuming warmth and kindness touched countless lives.
Known for her extraordinary artistic talent, Dorothy loved to draw and often devoted many hours working on intricate, creative projects as well as capturing quick sketches of beachgoers at the Texas coast. To hone her craft, she studied at the Hunter School of Art in San Antonio, founded by renowned Texas artist Warren Hunter, paving the way to a career as an artist for the marketing department of the San Antonio Express-News, a role she held for more than 20 years.
Dorothy adored her two grandsons and especially delighted in creating memories with them at the beach while fishing or relaxing on the shore. She also was an avid gardener and enthusiastic participant in games and holiday celebrations at the Lions Field Adult and Senior Center.
Preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lydia Rendon, Dorothy is survived by her devoted daughter, Laura Lonas Hernandez (Eric); sisters Gloria Fontenot and Margaret Bavousett; grandsons Eric and Austin Hernandez; a nephew and several nieces.
To honor Dorothy's life, the family will receive friends at 12 noon
