It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dolores Bertha Chavarria Villarreal, who left this world peacefully on August 18, 2026, with her beloved family by her side. Born on February 11, 1931, in San Antonio, Texas, Dolores was a beacon of kindness, strength, and wisdom, touching countless lives with her gentle spirit and unwavering dedication to serving others.
Dolores was the cherished daughter of the late Albert and Juanita Chavarria. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Edmund Villarreal, with whom she shared a beautiful life in San Antonio. Together, they built a home filled with love and hospitality, always welcoming family and friends with open arms. Dolores was also preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Theresa Gonzales and Mary Ann Vara, her stepson Edmundo Villarreal, Jr, and brothers-in-law Rudy Villarreal, Philip Villarreal, Richard Ortiz and Rudy Siordio, John Gonzales, and Manuel C. Vara, her beloved nephew Manuel A. Vara, and her cousin and dear friend, Vera Sanchez.
Dolores is survived by her loving stepchildren, Elizabeth Eriksson (Ivan), Yevette Hernandez (Gilbert), and Ezekiel Villarreal, as well as her dear sisters-in-law, Elena Ortiz and Ofelia Siordio. She also is survived by 8 step-grandchildren; 8 step-great-grandchildren and one step-great great grandchild. Her memory will also be cherished by her nephews, John Gonzales (Guadalupe), Adrian Gonzales, Paul Gonzales (Debbie), Edward Vara (Corrine), and Mark Vara (Elizabeth), who will forever hold her close in their hearts.
A dedicated educator, Dolores graduated from Fox Tech High and furthered her education at Incarnate Word College, now the University of the Incarnate Word, where she completed her studies and later earned her Master's Degree. Her passion for teaching led her to a fulfilling career as a professor at St. Philip's College, where she inspired countless students to pursue careers in medicine.
An active member of St. Mary Magdalene's Church, Dolores devoted her time and talents to various ministries, including the St. Vincent de Paul Ministry. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a charter member of the Secular Oblates of St. Francis of Assisi.
She often attended daily mass and embraced that as a start to a faith-filled day. Her commitment to service was recognized when she received the Lumen Gentium award from the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
Dolores had a love for life that extended beyond her professional and spiritual commitments. She enjoyed traveling, was a voracious reader, and kept up with the latest technology to stay connected with her family, often participating in Zoom gatherings and staying informed about current events. Her home and garden were her pride, and she maintained them with care and attention to detail.
Those who knew Dolores remember her as a reserved yet insightful individual. Her keen wit and ability to engage in meaningful conversations made her a cherished companion to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff of Cardinal Senior Care, The Key, Saldivar Primary Home Family Care, and Heritage Creek Living. Special thanks to the compassionate caregivers, Darlene Cruz, Agnes Boston, Jahzerah Knoz, Wanda Hermes, and Alisha Jennings, who surrounded Dolores with love and care in her final days.
