Obituary

Dolores Josephine Hernandez Henry, 70, died peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Feb. 13, 2014. Dolores was a loving wife, cherished sister, caring mother and grandmother. She was the beloved daughter of the late Cenobio and Josephine Hernandez. Dolores was born on March 31, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas, where she graduated from Providence High School. She received her nursing diploma from James R. Dougherty School of Nursing in Corpus Christi, Texas. In her long nursing career, Dolores evolved into a venerable and highly qualified RN who was well loved and received by her patients and peers alike. Many in the San Antonio area will recall her faithful time served in the emergency room at the Santa Rosa Hospital. From there, she and her husband of 48 years, Charles "Chuck" Henry, lived throughout the United States eventually settling in Prescott, Arizona in 1990, where she worked for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Although Dolores officially retired from nursing in 2004, she not only continued to volunteer at the hospital, she also rekindled her dormant musical talents. Unbeknownst to many, Dolores studied piano as a child from her grandfather Cenobio Hernandez and continued playing piano recitals and singing in the Marian Choristers through her teenage years. These latent talents resurfaced with a little coaxing in the form of song writing where she initially co-penned Te Seguiré and T Me Das Vida with her brothers. This momentum culminated in two CD releases of her own: What Christmas Brings (2007) and Can You Wish Upon The Moon (2011). In 2012, she and her husband took up part-time residence in Provo, Utah to spend time with their children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Chuck Henry and sons: Charles and wife Laura Henry, and Thomas and wife Marianna Henry and five grandchildren: Shelby, Vaughna, Cole, Ella, and Jane. Her brothers and sisters are Rosario Hernandez, Ricky Hernandez, Cenobio Xavier Hernandez and Veronica Rose Hernandez. The Rosary will be on Sunday, March 2nd at 5pm at The Angelus Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 3rd, 9:30am at St. Ann's Church with burial at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:00am.
