A Gift from God

By Tamsen Butler

Mothers are a gift from heaven God uses to

demonstrate his love for all children.

No one will ever love you like God

or a mother does, But take solace in the fact that

you'll meet again someday.

The world lost a beloved wife and mother, Diamond Alfaro Mendoza, on September 18, 2021.  Diamond battled dementia but it never stopped her from giving out the best hugs while she could.  Diamond died in her home surrounded by her children, Belinda, Steve, and Gary and her husband, Pete.

Diamond, name Diamantina at birth ("little diamond") was born in Brackettville, Texas on January 21, 1936 to Victoria and Antonio Alfaro.  She was one of 14 children.

As a bank teller for 45 years at Frost Bank, Diamond was known for her friendly, giving and caring nature.  Her passions included cooking and entertaining for friends and family.  Diamond was a devout Catholic and loved her church, her priests, and spent a lifetime serving the Lord.  Her favorite hobbies were dancing and going to see live music concerts.  She loved all the country western greats of the 50's and of course, Elvis.

Diamond's energy was remarkable and she never said no to an opportunity to travel, tour towns, her own Riverwalk from end to end.  Her favorite alone time was spent shopping for sales at North Star Mall.  She had great fun and amazing luck at casinos. She was most proud of her family and her granddaughter.  She cared for all four of her aging parents until their deaths.  She worked tirelessly and then would visit and care for them each day after work.

After retirement she volunteered with St. Vincent De Paul and ran the program as President for over 10 years.  She gave her time, energy, and love to other organizations as well.

She will be truly missed and is survived by her daughter, Belinda; sons: Gary and Steve; her husband, Pete; granddaughter, Lyla; daughter-in-law, Lynne; sisters; Mary A., Josie, and Dottie; and brothers: Jesse, Albert and David as well as many nieces and nephews.

"Mom you are loved and always remembered.
For us, it's not goodbye, but see you later."
