Obituary

Deodato (Jap) Flores died peacefully at home, Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the age of 92.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Eudelia Tovarez Flores, siblings Maria de Jesus/Suzie Flores  Ramirez, Isabel Flores Torres, Jose Flores and Federico Flores .  He is survived by his children, Edward Joseph Flores and Delia Ann Flores, siblings, Pedro Flores and Eva Benavides and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a WW II veteran who served in the United States Navy in the Pacific, he enlisted a month short of his 18th birthday.  He worked at Kelly Air Force base beginning as an airplane mechanic and gradually working  himself up to an office position.   He retired from Civil Service and several years later worked for the San Antonio Independent School District as a bus driver for special needs children a job he thoroughly enjoyed.

He was a life time parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church.  He coached the Parish's little league baseball team, helped with the Boy Scouts and was ever present at the Church's annual festival at the BBQ booth.  He was also involved with the Knights of Columbus.

He was a great storyteller with a love of history especially family history, honest and straightforward with a no nonsense approach.  He was often sought out for his wisdom and moral compass and was known for helping others.  He loved his Ranchera music, fishing, and traveling.  Though he is no longer physically present he leaves his legacy:  do what is right and say your prayers at night.
