Delia's life was rooted in deep devotion to Family. She was born in her grandparents' home—Jesus and Adelaida Cardenas—on San Marcos Street, just steps from San Fernando Cemetery No. 1. The eldest child of Gilberto and Gerarda Cardenas, Delia spent her early years helping her family sell flowers. Later, she lovingly supported her father and stepmother Maria, in raising her siblings: Gilberto Jr., Consuelo, Enrique, and stepsister Maria Antonietta. She also cashiered at the family grocery store and assisted through an expansion of the business into a limousine livery service.
After Lanier High School, Delia dedicated her professional life to public service, working at Kelly Air Force Base, Audie Murphy VA Hospital, and San Antonio Missions National Historic Park.
Civically, she was a charter member of the Mexican American Business and Professional Women's Club, promoting leadership, education, and sisterhood among Mexican American women. She was also a founding member of the Bexar County Chicana Political Coalition dedicated to civic engagement and advocacy.
Anchored in her Catholic faith, Delia was a devoted parishioner, choir member, and fundraiser at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower.
She found joy in spending quality time with family, loved flower gardens, pan dulce, and the charm of her cherished historic home.
Delia is survived by her former husband, Rogelio Arzola; her children: Diana Arzola Stephens, Robert Arzola (husband Steven McCune), and Christina Arzola Van Epps (husband Edward Van Epps); and her grandchildren: Gabriel Gonzalez (wife Karla), Brianna Shay Stephens, Annalisa Arzola, Jason Van Epps (wife Anahi), and Vandy Van Epps.
