Obituary

On August 6, 2021, JD went to be in the loving arms of Our Lord.  He now joins his wife, Lupe and all his loved ones and friends who have passed before him.  He is survived by his stepchildren, grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law, along with numerous nieces and nephews in San Antonio, Pennsylvania, Omaha, Nebraska and Denver.

JD was born March 5, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA.  He joined the United States Air Force in 1952 and retired in 1972.  He worked with the Boy Scouts in various positions and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award while stationed in Germany.  He continued his career with the United States Postal Service and retired with 23.5 years of service.

His next phase in life was serving Our Lord and was ordained a Deacon on September 8, 1996 in San Antonio.  He spent 20 active years at Blessed Sacrament Church and retired in 2016. During retirement he continued to serve in the Church and his community.

He portrayed Santa Claus for over 20 years at San Antonio Convention Center, schools, churches, the Air Force bases, and other events.  He was devoted to loving and serving others with joy and his great sense of humor.  JD (aka Deacon Santa) brought the joy of Christmas to so many throughout his life.

In September of 2014 he wrote his own autobiography, titled "My Struggles and Successes in Life" in which he dedicated to his loving and devoted wife, Lupe.  JD also gave valedictorian students of Blessed Sacrament and St. Anthony Schools, scholarship awards honoring his wife, Lupe who was a valedictorian herself.

He will be deeply missed by his family and many parishioners at Blessed Sacrament Church and the community.  May he rest in peace, Amen.
