Obituary

David Robledo Cantu, born on February 13, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas, and a lifelong resident of the Alamo City, passed away on September 23, 2023. He was 74 years old.

David dedicated 50 years of his life to his work as a truck driver, showing care, passion, and dedication to the vocation that he loved. David was a supremely capable driver, and he was perpetually fulfilled "on the road," logging hundreds of thousands of miles trucking on Texas roadways. He received numerous awards for his safe driving.

His dedication extended beyond his career as he was a devout husband to Cynthia Ann for 42 years and a proud father to their children, Melissa Ann, David Ricardo (Jennifer Lynn), and Michael Carlos. David was also a grandfather to his beloved grandson, David Ricardo. Preceded in death by his parents, David and Maria, and siblings Janie and Manuel, he is survived by his brothers Oscar and Armando and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graduate of Fox Tech High School in San Antonio, class of 1967, David overcame early language barriers to earn his diploma. He instilled the importance of learning in his children, and encouraged them to pursue their educations diligently.

David's passions were diverse. He was an avid fisherman who found solace and joy on the Gulf Coast, where he shared his love for fishing with his family. He cherished his time spent by the water, teaching his loved ones the art of angling.

Not only did David have a profound love for fishing, but he was also a devoted animal lover. His faithful companion, "Walker," was by his side for countless cherished moments throughout his final years.

David's greatest achievements were the bonds he formed with family. He had a warm and charming personality, often greeting loved ones with his signature phrase, "Que paso, Mijo/Mija."

David's faith was an integral part of his life, as he was a Catholic and believer in Jesus Christ. He served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War.

In his leisure time, David enjoyed watching Westerns, delving into World War II history, and listening to the soulful melodies of Motown. His love for sports extended to following Cowboys and Longhorns Football, a tradition he shared with his family.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the numerous medical professionals who provided David compassionate and exemplary care throughout his life. A special thank you to Drs Hector Villaseñor, Melissa Isbell, Ronald Drengler and their caring staffs.  Finally, the family will be eternally grateful to the staff of a Methodist Specialty and Transplant for the tremendous medical care David received while in their care.

David Robledo Cantu's legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever cherish the memories they shared with this remarkable man.
