Gentle, smart, kind, funny, patient, strong...…there aren't enough words to capture the spirit and life of Dan Poteete. And there aren't enough tears to fill the huge void in our hearts, as he is now at peace with his Heavenly Father. Leaving worldly suffering behind, he's in heaven with his beloved Mamateete, and all those who have gone before him.
His life was rich in experience, well lived, well loved, well traveled – but of all his adventures and roles, Daddy was his favorite. His Hannah Rose and he were inseparable, both as best buddies, and deeply bonded father/daughter.
Dan was born in Indianapolis, son of a military officer and baby of six. A "military brat," the Poteete's followed their father to posts in Germany, Northern Africa and other locales, finally settling in Marble Falls, and then San Antonio. As a Marble Falls Mustang, Dan loved the marching band, and would use his trombone slide to gently kid the band members in front of him. There, his deep love of music was born, and was integrated into all aspects of his life.
An accomplished Technical Director with an emphasis on audio production, Dan's career spanned three spectacular decades. Artists he worked with ranged from Garth Brooks, Charlie Daniels, Michael Martin Murphey, Asleep at the Wheel, Bo Diddley, Dwight Yokum, George Strait, Mel Torme, Stevie Ray Vaughan and others. He toured with the Department of Defense producing live shows for the military in Italy, Turkey, Germany and more. He helped open Fiesta Texas and served as house manager for the Patsy Torres Band. But his pride and joy was the Carver Community Cultural Center, where he served for 12 years as Technical Director, and a proud member of IATSE Local 76. At the Carver, Dan's passion for technical excellence played out every day, producing thousands of technically flawless productions. With excellent leadership, teammates, union brothers, clients and audiences – Dan's talent created first class experiences, but all with a spirit of service, which is where his heart always was. At the Carver, he produced Aaron Neville, Etta James, Mavis Staples, Esperalda Spaulding, and so many others.
When he wasn't behind the sound board, you'd find him cooking, travelling, taking photos, tinkering with his computer(s), enjoying his buddies, history, science, and his beloved family. It absolutely broke our heart to lose him, but God wanted the best of the best, and we are glad his suffering is over, and his body is new and strong in heaven, where we will see him again. His faith was never stronger, he was so close to our Lord, and we are thankful for every minute we had him here on this earth.
Preceeded in death by his parents, Mary Elizabeth and Leon Poteete. Survivors include Dee Dee and Hannah Poteete, wife and daughter; siblings Andie Erben, Sandy Martinez, Becky Radicke, Mike Poteete and John Poteete; multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, and a large loving extended family.
