Consuelo Rodriguez Rivera 90, of San Antonio passed away peacefully in her sleep, while in hospice, on August 26, 2024. Born on May 2, 1930 to Maurilio and Josefina Rodriguez. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Elio H. Rivera Jr.; her sisters, Martha, Rosie, Josie and by her son, Andres Rivera. She lived a life taking care of others in many ways.
Consuelo grew up in San Antonio and graduated from Fox Tech High School in 1954. She met her future husband, Elio H. Rivera Jr, at a dance and soon after married, sharing 47 years of marriage before his passing in 2012.
My mom's life was spent working hard and helping others. Over the course of her life, she worked in Administration in Civil Service, for Northside Independent School District in the food service division as a cafeteria worker and the last job from which she retired from, as a VIA bus driver for a decade, with no accidents.
In all of these jobs, she always found time to take care of her family. From making cookies during the holidays and homemade tortillas at home, she always made sure that everyone was taken care of. After retiring from these jobs, she and her husband took care of each other and enjoyed taking trips.
Over the last 13 years, she took great pride in performing her role as a caretaker. As her husband's health declined, my mom took care of him until his passing at home in 2012. In 2021, her son Andres' health took a turn for the worse and she took care of him, visiting him in nursing homes, until his passing in 2022.
Consuelo R. Rivera is survived by her son, Elio H. Rivera III, daughter-in-law Elsa Rivera, daughter-in-law, Stephanie Griego; grandchildren, Olivia, Oscar, Sebastian and Landen; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
