Christina Dora De Winne, born fiercely independent on October 13th 1960 in Celle, Germany, passed away peacefully on May 30th 2025 in Austin, Texas with her husband at her side. She was the loving wife of Greg De Winne for 42 years, daughter of Karin and Durward Spray, sister of Durward (Gary) Spray Jr. (wife Monica Spray and kids Mariah, Tristan, and Tabitha Spray), mother of Erik (wife Vanessa Medina De Winne) and Nikolas De Winne (wife Katya Echazarreta), and grandmother (Omama) to Niko and Maya Medina De Winne, as well as Mars De Winne Echazarreta.
Christina immigrated to San Antonio when her step-father returned to the USA following his military service. She earned a degree in finance from UTSA and worked in the finance industry for several years, during which she met her husband and eventually had two sons. While in San Antonio she also spent her time volunteering at the Santa Rosa Hospital's pediatric oncology department helping kids feel comfortable and happy during their chemo treatments.
She later worked in the Austin ISD school system as a substitute teacher, a teacher's assistant for children with special needs, participating in school organizations such as the PTA, and volunteering her time with the Akins High School Band. She was also appointed to the Akins High School Campus Advisory Committee and the Austin ISD District Advisory Committee.
She loved fashion, interior design, photography, traveling the world, and spending time at the beach. She had a fierce, but loving personality and cared deeply for those important to her in her life. Her greatest joys were seeing her boys get married and become wonderful fathers, spending time with her grandchildren, creating memories with her loving family, and spending her days in beautiful landscapes under the brilliant sun. A sun as radiant as she was. She will be deeply missed and we thank her for leaving a mark in our lives.
