Charles Edward Salinas, age 77, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 23, 2017.
He enjoyed 56 years of marriage with his high school sweetheart, Vivian. They were blessed with four daughters: Susan, Deborah, Rhonda (husband Lonnie) and Cheryl (husband Arnold). He was a proud grandfather to Lauren, Isabella, Josef, Maranda, Colin and Archer. He has a loving brother Leroy and his wife Felis. He was loved by nephews, a niece, family members and friends.
Charles was very patriotic and loved his country. He flew the flag proudly from his front porch and wore patriotic hats, shirts, and completed his outfit with a stars and stripes walking cane. He was constantly asked if he was a veteran and was proud that people thought that of him. Also, he was active in his church. He was a previous Grand Knight for the St. Anthony Council 8036, 3rd Degree Knight for the Knight of Columbus of St. Joan of Arc Council 10181 and 4th Degree Knight for the Knight of Columbus at St. Katharine Drexel Assembly Council 2748. He continued to proudly honor his faith as a member of the St. Joan of Arc ACTS community.
He was a proud advocate of his family's heritage. The Salinas family came to the new world in 1731 with a Spanish land grant and are descendants of the Canary Islands. Louis Salinas fought in the 1st battle of the Alamo and Charles is a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas, Alamo Chapter.
Charles was a man of family, faith and heritage. With his strong work ethic and his ability to provide for his family, this created an environment of endless opportunity for his children. For those who knew Charles, he had a great sense of humor and was often the life of the party. He never met a stranger.
