Carmen Campos was called to Heaven on Friday, June 9, 2023, at the age of 76. She was born on February 1, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas.
Carmen possessed a deep love and devotion for our Lord and she lived her days with a purpose that was evident to all she encountered -- to be an active and enthusiastic servant of her Roman Catholic faith. Her life was centered on selfless sacrifice, devout worship and unyielding faith. She was an active member of St. Lawrence's Parish and frequent visitor of St. Leonard's Parish and members of both congregations will miss her good will, friendly smile and singing voice.
Carmen was the heart and soul of our family, serving as our matriarch following the death of her mother and best friend, Elisa H. Campos. Carmen was deeply involved in rearing multiple generations of our family's children, trusted by her parents and her siblings to provide endless love, support, comfort, care and true companionship to all in her charge. She was, all at once, our best friend, teacher, fiercest advocate, conscience and guide. Carmen provided us with counsel and advice when we could not find our paths forward. She taught powerful lessons of love and faith that always struck the heart. She treated each of us with kindness and endless compassion. She always maintained a powerful voice and set of values built around her faith and our family's traditions.
Carmen made innumerable and incomprehensible personal sacrifices in devoting her life to the service of her family, friends and community. Over and over she gave her best to all of us -- usually when we needed it most. In return, she was and will continue to be adored, cherished and respected by each of us. We will miss her strength, her wonderful sense of humor, her excellent cooking and her endless love and kindness.
In her final years, Carmen provided a powerful example that life is to be lived. She had taste for adventure that involved road and train trips with family to see loved ones, and learning to fish, shoot and drive in her late 60s and 70s. She loved the occasional Hot Toddy and wild tale when snuggled in a blanket, sitting by a fire surrounded by her family.
Carmen was preceded in death by her parents, Elias and Elisa Campos, brother, Gilbert Campos and sisters, Mary Campos and Esther Campos.
Carmen is survived by siblings Lucy Gonzales (Anthony), Elisa Soto (Sergio), Elias Campos, Jr. (Veronica) and Edward Campos (Phillip), as well as nieces and nephews Mary Barrientos, Joe Barrientos (Marsha), Elisa Meece (Justin), Laura Olivarez (David), Gilbert Campos (Melinda), Anthony Herrera, Michael Gonzales (Valerie), Mark Gonzales, Mari Elyse Campos, Sabrina Campos-Juarez (Amador), Allison Garcia (Juan), Desirae Campos, Matthew Campos and Jazmine Campos, along with numerous great nieces and nephews.
We will forever be influenced and guided by the tremendous love she shared with all of us and the many lessons she taught us in her daily actions.
Our family would like to thank Laura Olivarez and Veronica Puente for the special care you provided to Carmen. Your love, patience and kindness will never be forgotten.
