Carlos Villarreal, age 86, died on April 26, 2016, the way he lived his life… in control, with humor, and gratitude. Carlos was born in San Antonio to Lazaro and Carlotta Villarreal. Carlotta's sister, Rosa and her husband Miguel Govea raised him. He grew up with his first cousins, Lupe and Jessie Govea, who he always considered as a brother and sister.

He married Virginia, the woman he credits as the real reason for his family's success. He continued Rosa and Miguel's example of unending devotion and love to his family and instilled in his children a strong work ethic. Carlos was preceded in death by his daughter, Yvonne, parents, Lazaro and Carlotta, aunt and uncle, Rosa and Miguel.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia, and his children, Carlos A (Lois) Villarreal, Nancy (Rusty) Dollarhide, Robert A (Grace) Villarreal, and Elaine Gustin (Salman Naqvi). He leaves a legacy of 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; brothers Jesse Govea, Gilbert, Jose, and Alex Trevino, and sisters Lupe Hernandez, Lupe Trejo and Gloria Hernandez; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will begin Monday at 5:00pm in The Angelus Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be offered Tuesday at 12:00pm at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors.
