Carlos Jose Garcia passed away on November 10, 2016, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on August 15, 1924, in Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
Carlos grew up in San Antonio, Texas. After high school, he joined the military. He confirmed his love of country and his right to US Citizenship by bravely participating in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam as a crewmember in the Army Air Core and later US Air Force.
Carlos married Gladys Landivar on June 27, 1953, in La Paz, Bolivia. They were happily married for 63 years. His life proved that anyone could succeed in our great country through hard work and dedication. Carlos's family arrived in the US with limited assets, but Carlos and Gladys became world travelers and raised three children, all of whom graduated from college, and live comfortable lives.
Carlos is survived by his loving wife, Gladys; daughters, Patricia and Elizabeth; son, Carlos and wife Carol; grandsons, Carlos (CJ), Thomas, and Andrew; sisters-in-law, Josephine and husband Joe Chambers, and Rina Kimball; and many wonderful nephews and nieces.
His service in the US Air Force not only fulfilled his love for flying, but also took him to foreign lands where he excelled in his professional duties and in social interactions. He made a mark and wonderful friends wherever he went. Carlos was assigned to both the Military Airlift Command and the Strategic Air Command.
Carlos believed in God and family and was a devoted son to his parents, Nicasio and Josefina. He also formed a close bond with his brothers, Chui and Beto, and sister, Margaret Saenz. After retiring from the Air Force, he joined his brothers at the Lucchese Boot Company as a sales manager, and all three brothers made important contributions. These beliefs carried over to his own family, where his daughters and son learned about the importance of God, family, and the love of a caring father.
Carlos enjoyed reading and was extremely knowledgeable about history, geography, and politics. He also enjoyed planes, cars, and Volkswagen buses. He often tinkered with cars in the company of his son, who became an engineer.
