Carl L. Ponzio, Sr. died peacefully on February 22, 2016, in San Antonio, Texas.

He was born in Dennison, Ohio on March 10, 1926. In 1952, the family relocated to San Antonio. Carl was preceded in death by parents Alex and Erma Ponzio; brother, Vito Ponzio, Sr., and sister, Gloria Guerra.

Carl is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rita Rizzo Ponzio; daughter Diana Ponzio-Garcia and husband Louis; daughter, Debra Ann Ponzio; son, Carl L. Ponzio, Jr.,; and granddaughter, Carleigh Sierra Ponzio.

Carl served honorably in the United States Army in WWII. He retired from CPS Energy after 34 years. Carl was a member of San Francesco di Paola Catholic Church, San Francescani Society and Christopher Columbus Italian Society.

Carl was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends. His favorite saying was "come early, stay late." Carl was a humble man, a true gentleman and was beloved by everyone who knew him.

FUNERAL SERVICES

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 28, at 4:00 PM at San Francesco di Paola Catholic Church with Rosary to follow at 5:00 PM. The Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday, February 29, at 10:00 AM, with burial to follow at San Fernando Cemetery # 2.

Pallbearers: Alex Ponzio, Vito Ponzio, Jr. Louis Pisano, Michael Dobrowolski, Julius Germano, and Michael LaMacchia.
