Captain Martin C. Garcia passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 23, 2016.  He was surrounded by his family.  Martin was born on January 14, 1932 in San Antonio to his parents Martin and Hortencia Garcia.  He had two sisters, Estella Herbeck and Rosa Bertha (Janie) Celis.  He graduated in 1950 from Fox Tech High School.  From 1950-1954 he served four years as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, fighting in the Korean War.  While waiting to enter the SAFD, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service.  Shortly after that, he joined the SAFD where he served for 35 years and retired as a Captain.

He married his childhood sweetheart, JoAnn Garcia on April 21, 1960.  They were happily married for 56 years when he passed away.  He leaves behind his beautiful wife, five children: Martin, Mike, Laura, Joan and James; nine grandchildren.  The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the nurses, doctors and home health care services that took such good care of our beloved Martin.
