My Dad was born in Columbia, S.C. to Mary Russ Griffin and Luther Griffin on August 19, 1934. After graduating high school, he joined the US Air Force. During his military career he served with the USAFSS and was awarded numerous remarkable commendations. He retired as a MSgt in 1973 with 22 Years of service. He then became a Civil Servant at Kelly AFB for an additional 17 years.
He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, became a CPA and a Tax Accountant.
He was in the middle of his busiest season when he was struck ill. From his hospital bed he continued to give guidance to his numerous loyal clients.
He enjoyed a good game of golf with his friends, but the argument over who was a better golfer
he enjoyed even more. He loved a good political argument, a good Western or War Movie, but
most of all he enjoyed a good meal, especially if someone else was paying for it. He loved his
South Carolina Gamecocks but also his San Antonio Spurs. He displayed his famous sense of humor until the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mary & Luther Griffin, his beloved grandparents Gussie Mae and Walter Griffin and his devoted wife Brigitte Griffin.
He is survived by his loving daughter Monika Popilek, his loving wife Alma Griffin, step children Lisa Conaway, Lonnie & Joseph Benavides, his adoring "Sis" Shirley Garrick and her children Judie VanPatten and Scott & Sam Garrick and numerous cousins in South Carolina, along with his granddaughter Megan Conaway and numerous cousins.
He was a man of honor and integrity with a strong faith and willingness to serve God. He loved his country and his family.
