Beatrice Martinez was called home on August 14, 2021, at the age of 94. She joins her loving husband Rodolfo R. Martinez, Sr., her parents, 6 brothers and 2 sisters who preceded her in death.
She is survived by seven children, Rudy Martinez, Jr. (Kristin) Raymond Martinez (Frances), Tony Martinez (Carla), Rachel Montejano (Jerry), Rebecca Longoria, Gilbert Martinez (Catalina) and RoseMary Simmons (Jeff), 3 brothers, 21 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and counting, numerous nieces and nephews who all adored her.
Bea, as she was affectionately known, spent many years supervising the playground at St. Cecilia's Catholic School where her children attended. While only completing 5 th grade, in 2015 she was recognized by Incarnate Word High School as an honorary Shamrock for her commitment to Catholic education. All seven children attended St. Cecilia's Catholic School, the three daughters graduated from Incarnate Word High School, and four sons graduated from Central Catholic High School.
She was an avid and accomplished bowler for more than 20 years, her league bowling team was family to her. She also enjoyed sports, especially when it came to her children and grandchildren. If she was able she would not miss going to watch them play volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball. Unless of course the San Antonio Spurs had a game at the same time, the Spurs always took priority as she was their #1 fan. Her competitive spirit carried on with her love of games, never passing up an opportunity to play dominoes or cards with family and friends. She also had a great sense of humor, never missed the chance to offer a wisecrack or two.
Beatrice truly was a good and faithful servant and will always be remembered for her love and devotion to her faith and family.
