Aurora H. Baca went to be with the Lord on February 22, 2021. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on December 24, 1929. 3 days later the love of her life joined her, SSGT Richard C. Baca went to be with the Lord on February 25, 2021. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on December 8, 1924. They are preceded in death by her parents: Francisco and Elvira Hernandez, his parents John and Filomena Baca, their siblings, their two daughters Linda Cooke, and Sylvia Rodriquez. They are survived by their daughters Patricia Pena and her spouse Rolando Pena, their daughter Cynthia Arevalo, 12 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
Aurora worked as an Assistant Child Development Specialist for nearly 20 years. Her time in her field was split between Edgewood ISD and Palo Alto College Child Development Center. Her passion was to help children grow and develop. When she would walk into the classroom, her beautiful soul and smile would light up the room.
Richard served our country in the U.S. Navy for 4 years, U.S. Air Force for 2 years, and 30 years the Air National Guard. He fought in the Korean War, World War II, and Pearl Harbor, specifically on the USS Ward. Which was under the control of officer, LT William Outerbridge, had been in command of the Ward during her action off Pearl Harbor three years earlier. On December 7, Ward was patrolling off the entrance of Pearl Harbor when she encountered attacks, and sank a Japanese Midget Submarine, which were the first shots of the Pacific War. After he served, he worked at Kelly AFB where he retired as a Certified Aircraft Mechanic. After that, he continued his career working as a driver for The Angelus Funeral Home.
Richard and Aurora Baca were beautiful, giving, caring, and loving individuals. They treated everyone that they met as one of their own. They had a love story that you only read about in books. On Christmas Eve, all of the family would be welcomed into her home with open arms ready to celebrate. They lived each day to their fullest and will be truly missed.
