Mickey left us to be with Our Lord on March 21, 2018 just days before her 80th birthday. She was the middle of nine children born to Jose and Sapopa De La Cerda.

She graduated from San Antonio Vocational and Technical High School Class of '56.  It is there that she met her future husband of 57 years Humberto.  They married on November 6, 1960 raising two sons along the way Michael and David.

Mickey started her nursing career after graduating from The Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1959.  She continued her career as a Registered Nurse obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio.  She was also a Certified Diabetes Educator and was honored as Diabetes Educator of the Year by The American Association of Diabetes Educators in 1989.

In the same year, she was named, along with ten other women, as Outstanding Women in the Career Service Field in San Antonio.

As the wife of a Marine KC130F Flight Engineer, Mickey and her children moved often following Humberto to the air bases he was stationed, a lifestyle that took her from coast to coast and Hawaii.

She was a faithful parishioner at St. Paul Catholic Church. She was also an active member of the St. Paul Alter Society. The Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, The Marine Corps League Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary Alamo Post 2.

She is survived by her husband Humberto, sons Michael and David, grandchildren Zachary and Ashley, and great grandchild Paisley, her siblings Connie Cardenas, Emily Skroupa, Henry De La Cerda and Andrew De La Cerda.
