Arthur (Art) Bazan Jr, age 87 of San Antonio, died peacefully with family by his side on Monday, May 6, 2019. Art proudly served in the U. S. Air Force as a Korean War veteran. He retired from Randolph Air Force Base after 36 years of civil service. He served as a Firefighter, a Rescue Squad Leader and an Emergency Medical Technician.
As a boy, Art was a fiercely competitive student-athlete who grew up to be a weekend warrior and an avid sports fan. He followed professional and collegiate baseball, basketball and football. In his early years he coached youth sports (CYO). He focused on fundamentals and discipline. With grandchildren he learned to enjoy and appreciate soccer. He took every opportunity to shamelessly brag about his granddaughters who played college soccer (Division 1).
In keeping with his love of sports, Art worked as a bartender for 10 years at Coach's Corner, a local sports bar now closed. He enjoyed tending bar, serving ice cold beer and providing a fun yet relaxed environment. Many customers becoming regulars. Art provided top notch service and looked after the safety of his customers.
Art is preceded in death by his parents, Natalia V. and Arturo Bazan and 6 siblings: Francisco, Coleta, Leonor, Beatriz, Virginia, and Otilia. He is survived by daughter Patricia Bazan Carle and her husband Patrick, son Arthur Bazan III, two granddaughters, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Art's loving ways, sense of humor, quick wit and tamale-making will be sorely miss. His family mourns their loss yet praises his gain.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to Lindsey and Dan Tanta, owners of Hollywood Park Assisted Living, for their compassionate care during Art's stay.
