Armando Rodriguez, 87, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, after a courageous struggle with Parkinson's Disease.
A San Antonio native, Armando was born to Armando and Alicia (Rodriguez) Rodriguez on October 13, 1938, the eldest of 4 children. He graduated from Central Catholic High School, attended San Antonio College before entering Assumption Seminary two years later. In 1962, he left the seminary and joined the US Air Force, serving 3 years as an Air Policeman at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. After his military service, he met and married the love of his life, Yolanda, in 1968. Together they raised two children and shared 58 devoted years of marriage.
Armando had a long and distinguished career in the banking industry. His early work included converting credit unions throughout Texas from handwritten ledgers to early computer systems. He also held leadership and executive positions at St. Ann's Credit Union, SA Neighborhood Youth Organization Credit Union, GECU, and St. Joseph's Credit Union. Armando retired in 2016 after successfully completing the operational merger of St. Joseph's with Firstmark Credit Union.
Deeply committed to service, Armando was active in many organizations. He served as a Scoutmaster and on the Eagle Scout Board of Review for the Boy Scouts, was a member of the Optimist Club, and volunteered for many years as head usher at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, where he and Yolanda were founding members. He also cherished his daily neighborhood walks, growing African violets, researching his family genealogy, and creating a welcoming backyard habitat for birds. A devoted sports fan, he closely followed the San Antonio Spurs and UTSA Roadrunners.
Armando was a constant model of integrity, modesty, and genuine respect for others. His kindness earned him lasting friendships through his work and hobbies. He was devoted to his wife and family, always working diligently to provide and care for them. His family especially loved his quiet humor, his sincere interest in their lives, and his delicious home-cooked 'survival food' and holiday feasts.
Armando was preceded in death by his parents, Armando and Alicia Rodriguez. He is survived by the wife he adored for 58 years, Yolanda (Mendoza), his children Armando Rodriguez III and Sandra Newstadt (Mitch), his devoted sisters Cynthia Martinez, Linda Kryzsko (Phil), and Carol McClung (Mark), along with many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.
