Obituary

Anna Christina Maldonado Peterson was born in San Antonio, Texas, on April 16, 1946, the daughter of Marcelo Q. and Trini Maldonado. She grew up in San Antonio, where her determination and dedication to education led her to graduate as valedictorian from Ursuline Academy.

She continued her studies at St. Mary's University and ultimately earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Texas. Later, she earned a Master of Science degree from Corpus Christi State University.

Anna's career in education spanned more than 40 years. She began as a classroom teacher and went on to serve in curriculum development and school administration. More than 20 of those years were spent with Tuloso-Midway ISD in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she ultimately served as Assistant Superintendent. After leaving Tuloso-Midway, she spent nearly another decade as principal at SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic School in Corpus Christi and Little Flower Catholic School in San Antonio before retiring to travel and spend time with her family.

Her Catholic faith was central to her life, and she was a professed member of the Secular Carmelite Order, inspired by the spirituality of St. Thérèse of the Little Flower. Anna was a member of Corpus Christi Cathedral for many years, where she dedicated her time as an RCIA teacher and lector. After retirement, Anna devoted her time and talent to her order as well as the National Basilica of the Little Flower in San Antonio. She served as a sacristan, a volunteer tour guide for the Basilica, and in many other capacities whenever needed. She greatly cherished the friendships and bonds she formed over the years within her faith community and parish.

Anna also treasured her time spent with family. Whether it was cruises or trips to the Texas coast, she loved being surrounded by her family. She especially enjoyed the Christmas season, which included tamale making and an annual family gathering that she hosted for the past 10 years. Her family will forever cherish those memories and the time spent together.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, Marcelo and Trini Maldonado. She is survived by her children, Christopher (April) and Andrea (Dillon); her grandchildren, Ayden and Brooks Rios; her sisters, Maria Elva Maldonado and Alma Maldonado; her aunts, Carolina Missirian and Nelda Swearengin; her uncle, Bernabe Maldonado; and her niece, Maya Maldonado-Weinstein. She is also survived by many cousins and extended family members.

Anna will be remembered for her deep faith, dedication to education, and the love and kindness she poured into her family, friends, and community.

The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to all those who supported Anna through visits, messages, and prayers. We especially thank the Friars from the Basilica who came to offer their support and comfort to Anna and the family.
