Obituary

On Wednesday evening, January 18, 2023, Anna May Galaviz Rodriguez, completed God's plan for her life and was called home to Heaven for her most well-deserved reward. Anna May was a good and faithful servant to her Lord. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on May 26, 1929 and lived to the age of 93. She passed away in her home of almost 57 years, according to her wishes and surrounded by her loving and devoted family.

Rodriguez, Jr. (Katy).

She also leaves behind her sisters, Olga Bradford, Norma Funari and sister-in-law Virginia Galaviz. Great-grandchildren: Alexia Morales, Jared Stobaugh, Brianna Villalobos, Valerie Medrano (Robert), Bobby Villalobos, Eddie Villalobos and Caleb Villalobos. Great-great grandchildren: Makayala Medrano, Jakob Medrano, Caidenn Deleon and Arenn Deleon Esquivel. Along with other great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends.

Anna May was devoted to Mother Mary and always took her petitions for her family to Mary in constant, quiet prayer. As a young woman and new wife, Anna May was a member of Hijas de Maria at San Fernando Catholic Church.

Anna May never met a stranger and had the wonderful ability to put people at ease and find common ground with them after a few short minutes in conversation. People fell in love with her soft, loving and quiet ways almost immediately. She always offered wise advice to those in trouble, starting and ending with "talk to God about it and you will know what to do".

In 1945, Anna May began her career in the office at AB Frank Department Store as a comptometer operator, a precursor to the modern-day computer. She was very efficient and quick in the operation of her machine to determine figures for accounting and inventory.  After AB Frank, Anna May continued her work as a comptometer operator at various department and wholesale stores. In the 1980's, while working with McDougal Carnahan, she began taking responsibilities for inside sales of their housewares inventory. The company had many clients from Mexico and since Anna May was bilingual, she assisted customers with their purchases and encouraged them to buy additional inventory. As sales increased, it became apparent she had a knack for sales and was promoted to outside sales representative. Anna May was the first female sales representative for the company. In the early 1980's her company was purchased by Heusinger Hardware Company where Anna May once again became the first female sales representative. At Heusinger, she not only sold housewares but also hardware. When she joined Heusinger Hardware, she knew nothing about "nuts and bolts". But with her superior intellect and quick mind, she studied the inventory every day and soon became an expert.  Her main accounts included HEB and Centeno as well as many other "mom and pop" stores. Anna May wholeheartedly believed there was nothing one could not accomplish if they firmly set their mind to achieving their goal.

Anna May was an avid collector of antiques, including furniture and vintage and antique dolls, vases, nick-nacks and many other items. She would purchase furniture in disrepair and her late husband would restore the items. At one point, she had plans to open a resale store of her own.

Anna May's focus was always on her family. Her love, devotion and sacrifices for her family is her legacy. From a time many years ago, before it became a popular saying, when one of Anna May's children or grandchildren would tell her they loved her, her response was always "I love you more". And she did.

Anna May's public viewing will begin at 5 pm on Tuesday January 24, 2023. Her rosary will be at 7 pm that evening. Her funeral mass will be Wednesday January 25, 2023 at twelve-noon at St. Ann Catholic Church. Interment will be at San Fernando Cemetery II immediately following her funeral mass.
