Ann Monaco LaMacchia, "Annie" to all who knew and loved her, was born June 29, 1926, and entered eternal rest on November 15, 2018, in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 92.
The youngest of four daughters born to Guiseppe and Rosina Monaco, Annie adored and looked up to her sisters from a very young age. The Monaco Sisters – Katherine, Mary, Janie and Annie – were quite the foursome, dressed to the nines at all times and beautifully coiffed.
Annie met the love of her life, Al LaMacchia, as a teenage girl when the charming baseball player from St. Louis, then pitching for the San Antonio Missions, came by for a home-cooked meal while playing in town. She fell for Al immediately and their love affair spanned over 6 1/2 decades, 2 children, 3 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, numerous major league baseball franchises, countless stadium nights, extensive travel and so much more.
A wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Annie had a strong faith, truly loved to dote on others and was most at home in her kitchen, whether frying up chicken and meatballs for Sunday family lunch, singlehandedly turning out an authentic Italian spread or baking homemade layered cakes "just because." It has been said that Annie had a genuinely joyful outlook on life, always with a smile on her face and a compliment for those around her. She aged as she lived, with the utmost of elegance and grace.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sisters. Annie is survived by many loving family members and friends, including daughter Rozana Corbo (Bobby), son Mike LaMacchia (Patti), grandchildren Deanna Corbo Walker (Scott), Cristina Corbo Jennings (James) and Andrew LaMacchia (Desaree), and great-grandchildren, Zachary, Rachel and Chase Walker, Annie, Becca, and Will Jennings, and Jacob and Judah LaMacchia, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Annie's many attentive caregivers, especially Teresa Trevino, Raquel Reyes and Esperanza Sanchez, as well as Rachel Pantuso, April Teichrow and the great staff of Compassus Hospice.
