Obituary

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Anita Trevino Mayorga, who went home to her Heavenly Father on March 15, 2025, at the age of 88. She passed of natural causes in San Antonio, Texas, her home of 60 years surrounded by her children.

Anita was preceded in death by her beloved husband Luis Gonzalez Mayorga, daughter, Yolanda Mayorga Arnold, granddaughter, Christie Barajas, father, Jose Pedro Trevino and mother, Anita Alvarado Trevino of Riviera; brothers: Salome, Felipe, Vicente, Rodolfo, Lorenzo, Jose Noe, Tiburcio Trevino; and sisters: Dora Juarez, Evanjelina Vasquez, Elva Berumen.

She is survived by her loving children: Maria Alicia Mayorga, MD; Ida Soriano (Jim); Norma Naghaviani, MD (Khosrow); Robert Mayorga (Camille); Rose Barajas (Andy); Velma Mayorga; David Mayorga, Esq. (Gloria); Abel Mayorga; brother-in-law "son", Jesse Mayorga (Martha); 30 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren; brothers: Pete, Manuel, Willie, Abel Trevino; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was born in Riviera, Texas on April 26, 1936, during the Great Depression to a ranching and farming family. She was the 8th of 14 children where everyone had a role to play in working the land to survive. At age 5, her job was to help make tortillas for tacos that her father and brothers took to the fields for lunch. Singing during church and chores and attending Church were the only interruptions to work time.

Anita was a highly intelligent and determined person, with a knack for remembering numbers. She loved school and finished 7th grade before marrying Luis Gonzalez Mayorga of Riviera, Texas and supported his Air Force Civil Service career for 33 yrs. Together they participated in many Catholic and social justice activities. Anita successfully completed her GED as an adult, an accomplishment of which she was quite proud. She was the first teacher to her children, including a dyslexic child, teaching them their alphabet, numbers and encouraging them during nightly homework. She promoted their pursuit of education, as well as the arts of music, dance, and sports, asking her children only to do their best and no less.

Anita's first devotion was to God and the Catholic Church. When her family converted to the Baptist Church, she fought her parents at the age of 13 to remain a Catholic and made her husband promise to send all their children to Catholic school. She was a daily mass attendee at St. Paul Catholic Church, Altar Society and Monthly Rosary in the Square member and a passionate Eucharistic Adoration adorer. When she could no longer walk or get to church, she viewed daily mass on TV, or on a mobile phone while in the hospital. Her strong religious mission in her later years was to comfort and pray for those who lost loved ones, to praise God and to enjoy His gifts of nature, gardening, and music.

After God, Anita's most important and fulfilling role in life was being a mother to her children who continue to feel her profound and unending love for them. Her love and generosity extend to relatives, friends, and strangers. She shared what she had by giving gifts to her children, grandchildren, and others. Her most valued treasures were not monetary.

She showed such determination during tough times, working harder, sleeping and eating less, while managing the family auto parts business and working multiple side jobs, until becoming a pastry cook in the San Antonio School District where she retired proudly with her pension, another one of her accomplishments.

Anita, God's devoted and humble servant, wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, aunt, niece, cousin, and loyal friend, we celebrate and thank you for the blessed life you lived and the pure love you represent which is felt dearly by your family and all those who shared your life on this earth. Your absence will leave a huge hole in our hearts; yet we know that you will fill it with love from afar as you so graciously did when close to us. Rest with the Lord. We love you!
