Life is fragile, handle with prayer.
02/25/1936 – 07/06/2021
Angelina C. Martinez passed away on July 6th after a period battling complications due to covid.
Mom passed away as I held her hand and she breathed her last breath as the last sentence of The Chaplet of Devine Mercy was sung. "Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, Have Mercy on us and on the whole world." The time 8:20 will forever be engraved in my mind, as well as the loving look the nurse gave me when she said, "your mom just passed." However, the most memorable moment will be the miraculous transformation that happened before my eyes. The presence of Jesus in the room with us, ready to take mom to the place He has prepared for her.
Angelina was born in Monterrey N.L., Mexico, where she was raised by her grandmother "mama Panchita" and her grandfather "papa Victoriano." Her upbringing was rough, and she had to learn to take care of herself pretty quickly, but she always made sure to take care of her little brother Esteban too. She married the love of her life after courting for 5 years.
They moved to the United States to follow the American dream. Corpus Christi, TX (in the 50's) is where my brother and I were born and lived for some years. My parents decided to move to San Antonio in the 70's where she and dad became American Citizens. Dad was a movie projectionist, a self-taught welder, sold ice cream, and had a fruit stand at the Market Square, and she helped him every step of the way.
They did everything together, chores, yardwork, cooking, working on the cars, and the house. They even had a few side jobs to pay the bills and my private school education. Sacrifice and selfless love were what they modeled for everyone around them to try and follow.
Angelina loved to worship and sing praises to The Lord. She enjoyed reading her Bible and spiritual warfare books. She always wanted to learn how to pray more effectively since she was regularly asked to pray for others. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, nature walks, day trips through the hill country, going to the beach, learning from priests around the world through YouTube and binging her favorite show Resurrection on Netflix!
I thank God for giving my brother and I a loving mother as well as a grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to so many. I will miss her terribly, but I am also excited for her new life. No more blood pressure checks, joint or back pain, foot pain, A Fib, anxiety, worry or stress. This is her time now, time to Praise, Worship, and Dance for her Creator.
Angelina was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years (Mariano G. Martinez) and her younger brother (Esteban Olivares). She is survived by her sisters Rosa Maria Galvan and Mary Ann Solis.
