Alfred F. Pantuso, 88, our beloved Uncle, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 29, 2014. Born in San Antonio on January 11, 1926, he was the fifth child of Francesco and Theresa Pantuso. He was preceded in death by his son Ed; brothers, Sam and Amedeo Pantuso; sisters, Mary Pantuso Paganucci and Amelia Pantuso Guardino; and nephew Louis Pantuso. He is survived by his loving and devoted niece, Elizabeth Paganucci Kelly and husband Bill; nieces Gilda, Betty, Terry, Nadine; nephews Gene, Johnny, Mike, Joseph, Frank, Chris and Frank L; several great nieces and great nephews. Uncle Alfred attended Brackenridge High School and soon left to join the military. He served with distinction in WWII with the U.S. Marine Corps, 1st Marine Division May 1944 to November 1945. He was engaged in combat on Okinawa and suffered extreme battle fatigue. He was so very proud to have served our country and wore his US Marine cap everywhere. It was not uncommon to be thanked for his service while in public by former marines and company grade officers in all branches of our military. He was honorably discharged and returned to San Antonio where he continued his career with the U.S. Civil Service at Kelly Air Force Base as a weapons specialist. Following his government retirement, he was Chief of Security at Frost Brothers until the company closure here in San Antonio. Continuing his civilian work, he became a greeter with Wal Mart and retired at age 83 in January 2009. Always the "company man" and due in part to his military training, he was known to have prevented many shoplifting thefts while working for Frost Brothers and the Wal Mart organization. For several years, he enjoyed regular family gatherings; eating out and attending any event with family and neighbors, and his special family friend, Amy Kelly Zitko who saw to it that he had his pickles which brought much enjoyment and friendship during the breakfast events. Uncle Alfred was a past member of the Christopher Columbus Italian Society and the San Antonio Chapter of UNICO National. Our family extends sincere thanks and deep appreciation to his care givers; his two family RN's Paula and Alana; Sara, Christina, Alva and Angela, the entire Gross family and to the brief but superb care by Legacy Hospice. Pallbearers: Gene Paganucci, Johnny Pantuso, Mike Pantuso, Paul Pantuso, Byron Eckhart and William Gonzalez. Honorary Pallbearers: Joseph Guardino, Frank Guardino, Chris Guardino, Frank L.
